As stars are mere mortals just like us, we often wonder how do celebrities get rid of stretch marks? Do they have some special magic potion? Contrary to popular opinion, even though it is an easily affordable option, they don’t always opt for cosmetic surgery. Though the cost may not be a consideration, as with any surgery there can be risks attached and so many celebrities are choosing natural methods of stretch mark removal instead of undergoing treatment by a surgeon. Constantly in the public eye, celebrities are often photographed in unflattering poses which reveal their imperfections, but more and more celebrities are coming out of the closet and admitting that they too suffer from stretch marks. Movie stars such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Selma Hayek, Sharon Stone, and Jessica Alba have all admitted that their body is not as perfect as we would like to think. They have all said that they have suffered from stretch marks either as a result of pregnancy or after cosmetic enhancements such as breast augmentation. They have also revealed that they are amongst the increasing number of celebrities who are choosing to address this problem by using natural methods rather than resorting to visiting a cosmetic surgeon.
Stretch marks are striations or grooves which occur when the skin over a particular area of the body stretches and tears. They are usually caused when weight is gained quickly, either as a result of pregnancy, rapid weight gain or sometimes by bodybuilding. As the skin stretches, the collagen and elastin fibers that make up the middle layer of the skin, the dermis, tear at the site of the stress and form a gap which allows the inner layer to become visible. As this exposes the underlying blood vessels they initially appear red or purple. Eventually, they will contract and fade so that they are barely noticeable and there are ways to encourage this process to happen more quickly. The silvery white marks that are left are actually the layer of fat beneath.
There have been photographs in the press of Kate Beckinsale, star of such films as Aviator, Pearl Harbour, and Underworld, which show distinct stretch marks on her breasts. These have been attributed to a breast augmentation where the implants used have been too large and caused the skin to stretch too quickly, although Kate herself says they were as a result of her pregnancy. In a recent interview for the August edition of UK Glamour magazine, she said “I feel like beauty is a gift that you have for a while and you enjoy the hell out of it while you have it,” but says that she has no intention to resort to cosmetic surgery. She prefers to age naturally and it seems she also preferred to use natural methods to get rid of her stretch marks. By using high-quality creams containing active ingredients such as collagen and elastin, to replace the collagen and elastin damaged when the stretch marks were formed, she has been able to minimize their appearance so that they are practically invisible. These creams are specially formulated to be skin friendly and assist the skin to regain its previous suppleness.
Star of Desperado, Salma Hayek is also rumored to be a celebrity who has had breast augmentation and suffered from stretch marks as a result. Whether or not this is true, Hayek certainly chooses to choose natural methods to look after her skin, she claims she has not resorted to any kind of cosmetic surgery intervention preferring to use creams and lotions to repair any damage. The latest formulations of creams and lotions to repair stretch marks contain an ingredient called Retinyl Palmitate a substance which is claimed to encourage cell renewal. This has the advantage over ingredients used in the past such as Retinol and Retinoic Acid as there is no sun sensitivity when using it. In the past users either had to keep out of the sun or use sunblock.
Constantly in the media, it’s important that stars look at their best at all times, every photographer is looking to get that snap of a celebrity looking less than their best, so taking care of unsightly stretch marks is a priority for new celebrity moms. However, with more and more photographs appearing in the press of stars sporting stretch marks, there is a lot of speculation and people do wonder just how do celebrities get rid of stretch marks? Especially such celebrities as Angelina Jolie, who generates interest wherever she goes and whatever she does.
Jolie is a literally a household name, known for her roles in Lara Croft, Tomb Raider and a myriad of other films. Partner of Brad Pitt and mother of six children, three adopted and three natural, she has admitted to suffering from stretch marks, especially after the birth of her twins, Knox and Vivienne. Even though she gained a lot of weight during her pregnancies, particularly her last one, the tall dark haired beauty has been quoted as saying about pregnancy “I love it. It makes me feel like a woman.” Despite suffering from stretch marks following the birth, she has not resorted to any surgical intervention to remove them. Instead, she preferred to use natural methods by using top quality creams to smooth into the area. Regular massage in circular motions, applying gentle pressure encourages proper circulation and nutrients and blood to reach the damaged area. This helps dramatically with skin regeneration so that the marks become less visible. Of course, the heavily tattooed Jolie also has access to some of the best make-up artists in town who are often called on to camouflage her numerous tattoos when her film roles demand it. She has no doubt received expert advice on ways to cover up and minimize stretch marks with makeup and other camouflage products.
Jessica Alba’s pregnancy
Another celebrity who has admitted to the world that she has stretch marks is Jessica Alba. We have to remember that even though they are celebrities they are just like any new mom and her baby, their bodies respond to pregnancy and birth in the same way and they still have the same emotional issues as we do. Talking about her pregnancy, she said “Even though some might consider them a flaw, I’ve learned to love my stretch marks. Pregnancy was the most incredible experience I’ve ever had. So I’ll learn to take the stretch marks.” Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a woman’s life and having a few stretch marks is a small price to pay when creating a new life. However, some women do find that they lose their self-esteem as a result of these and feel the need to try to minimize their appearance. Like Jessica, women need to accept this evidence of pregnancy but at the same time if they are really bothered by their look; there are natural ways to help to fade away the striations in an easy and non-invasive way. Using a scientifically formulated cream or lotion which helps to nourish and support the skin has proven to be the best method.
So back to the question “how do celebrities get rid of stretch marks?” I think we can see that they are just mere mortals like us, they do use natural methods just like us and it’s message rather than magic which restores their skin to its pre-stretch mark glory.
